Hold Me Jesus

This song has resonated in my heart this past month. I’ve been burned out by school and the almost 500 pages I have to read weekly for classes. Here it is, “Hold me Jesus” by Rich Mullins.

Well, sometimes my life
Just don’t make sense at all
When the mountains look so big
And my faith just seems so small

CHORUS:
So hold me Jesus, ’cause I’m shaking like a leaf
You have been King of my glory
Won’t You be my Prince of Peace

And I wake up in the night and feel the dark
It’s so hot inside my soul
I swear there must be blisters on my heart

CHORUS

Surrender don’t come natural to me
I’d rather fight You for something
I don’t really want
Than to take what You give that I need
And I’ve beat my head against so many walls
Now I’m falling down, I’m falling on my knees

And this Salvation Army band
Is playing this hymn
And Your grace rings out so deep
It makes my resistance seem so thin

CHORUS

You have been King of my glory
Won’t You be my Prince of Peace

So I totally had this long comment on here… and it didn’t post it and now it’s gone. I hate technology.
    Let’s see…

I love this song! I think it is one of those timeless classics that any Christian identifies with at point in their walk or another.

The line “I’d rather fight You for something I don’t really want than take what You give that I need” always makes me think. This last Wednesday Jeremy preached about how the adoring crowd of Palm Sunday quickly turned into an angry mob by Good Friday because Jesus came to give them what they needed – forgiveness of sins and eternal salvation, but they didn’t get what they wanted – a conquering King to sweep in a defeat the Romans. It was very good.

The CD I have in my car (Big Daddy Weave) has this song on it, and until I heard this version (BDW) I could never figure out which hymn the Salvation Army Band was playing. It’s “I Surrender All” – how very appropriate.

I’m sorry school has you burned out. Just remember – Through it all….

    God is faithful.

And that’s the best encouragement I have!

Thanks! I’ve been struggling to sleep oftentimes waking up every few hours. I know it’s because I have things on my mind that I can do nothing about, which is why the chorus in particular has been my prayer. I identify with that same line (I’d rather fight you for something I don’t really want than take what you give that I need), finding myself subconsciously doing it all the time.

Well, perhaps you should try taking some tylonel PM before you go to bed – it helped Tony =)

I think it is in our [human] nature to fight the things we need for the things we don’t even want. But thankfully God came to conquer our flesh and the nature we were born with – and replaced it with His. and those who live in the Spirit walk by the Spirit, right?

Don’t stress. Give everything to God – I know that I know that I KNOW it is easier said than done. However, remember it is about the journey – take the time to smell the flowers and enjoy your God.
